After topping the practice for the Azerbaijan practice Friday, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen disclosed that Red Bull must not let its guard down and expect a stickback from Ferrari and Mercedes on Saturday.
It was the first time since third practice in Bahrain that Red Bull aced the timesheet. Verstappen set the pace for both practice sessions while Ricciardo was only a tenth off the latter’s time, garnering second and then third.
Verstappen said, “Ferrari and Mercedes can improve, so we have to be careful, but we are closer,”.
Verstappen confided he was surprised at his finish, although he raced with an upgraded Renault engine, which the team claims has a 0.2 second gain per lap.
