Esteban Ocon is happy with where he is right now and claims he is working on perfecting the finer skills needed to get a podium finish.
Ocon signed up with Force India in 2017 after driving for Manor in 2016. Along with Fellow driver Sergio Pérez, he is pushing Force India to be a leader in the mid field. The French driver scored 10 points from 11 races in the first half of the season and stands at the eighth slot in the driver’s championship standing.
Ocon believes he was “continuously improving” in the first few races. Now he is focussed on improving the finer details that will make a difference in the future races.
“If you look at Australia there was a massive step until now,” Ocon explained.
“In the first five races I was continuously improving, then the finer details is the rest that you need to improve and I’m starting to get this.
“This takes a bit more time obviously, and yes, I’m just learning all the time, and I will not lift off until I get my podium!”
Ocon is confident his performance in the next races will improve even further since he is already familiar with the tracks, thanks to his stint with Manor.
“I’m quite happy with how the season went at the moment,” the French driver explained.
“The target was to be scoring points in every race and that’s what we’re doing; in Monaco where we were a bit unlucky.
“I feel more and more comfortable with the team each time I get into the car and with each race I do.
“Now I will start being on tracks I know, which helps me as well, which is good.
“I look forward to what the rest of the season brings, but at the moment I’m happy with what I’ve done.”
