Ferrari’s driver and four time world champion Sebastian Vettel is sure they will continue to outpace Mercedes in the second leg of the season. He said, “we know what we need to do”.
The German is now at the top of the drivers’ standing with a 14 point lead over Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton after winning the Hungarian GP with Ferrari making 1st and 2nd place.
Historically Ferrari has won only one race after the summer break in the last six years, the win in Singapore GP in 2015. But Vettel is confident they have “all the ingredients” to change their track record.
Talking about his mid-season win he said “I think it’s more important to lead after the last race, but for sure if you could choose, that’s the position you want to be in.
“Equally, the season is long, there are a lot of races to come, and a lot can happen.
“But I think we have all the ingredients that we need to stay there [at the front of the field] and hopefully have a good rest of the season.”
Vettel spent two hours of testing on the second day of in season testing after Hungary GP working on “small things” that can help improve the SF70H.
“It’s important to get in the car outside a race weekend when you have a bit more freedom to try some stuff, both for the team and also for the driver,” he added.
“We tried some small things just to get a feel, and the feeling was good.
“I think we know in general after so many races what we need to do, but we’ll have a bit of a break for everyone, which is important, then we’ll start again.”
