Ferrari’s pace doesn’t worry Mercedes

Ferrari pulled a one-two finish at the recently concluded Hungary GP. They were pacing faster than Mercedes throughout the race. Mercedes chief Wolff thinks the pace was more track specific and not an indication of their actual abilities.

This was Ferrari’s second one-two finish in the season after adding several upgrades, especially for the Budapest race. Wolff is confident that the extra pace will not continue in the rest of the races of the year. Speaking with a sports website he said, “I think it is track specific.

“There are three tracks that are similar, high downforce tracks, Monaco, Budapest and Singapore, and we are starting to see a little bit of a pattern.

“The DNA of our car just seems to be running more stable on the faster circuits, and Ferrari is doing very well on the twisty slower circuits.”

Wolff is content with the fact that they were closer to the Italian team in Hungary than they were at Monaco where Ferrari won earlier.

“In Monte Carlo, we had problems much worse than here. The car was new for us, and we discovered a pattern that we didn’t see while being in Monaco.

“We have solved the problems – and this is what I take positive from the day: that we have become much closer to Ferrari on this type of circuit.”

Wolff believes that the tracks for the second half of the season are more favourable to the German team than the Ferrari. So Mercedes can win the title this year, he says confidently.
