Antonio Giovinazzi drove to the airport to bring back the “final part” Alfa Romeo needed to conduct the shakedown test of its 2019 car.
Alfa published the images of its special love livery on the occasion of Valentine’s day. Later in the day, a few images of the team conducting their shakedown made its way to the web.
Kimi Raikkonen took part in the shakedown test held at Fiorano circuit in Italy.
The team released a press statement which said Giovinazzi “made his way to the airport to retrieve the final part needed for the team to assemble the car”.
The car finished 33 laps testing the aerodynamic, set-up and cooling checks. The team used one out of two permitted filming day to complete the test.
The team’s race trim will be revealed next week when the official pre-season testing starts at Barcelona on Monday.
Team boss Frederic Vasseur called the shakedown as a “positive day” that helped the team “assess the progress we have made in our development ahead of the first tests in Barcelona next week”.
The team’s Technical director Simone Resta said they will use the data collected from the shakedown to “establish how the new regulations will affect the behaviour of our car”.
The series has introduced some changes like a simplified front wing and deeper rear wing to reduce the dirty air behind the car. The changes are a part of F1’s plans to make wheel-to-wheel racing possible in the series.
A lot of eyes are following the progress at former Sauber since Alfa Romeo took over its entry in F1. The move makes the team almost an extension of Ferrari, with a great driver line-up.
