Engine maker Honda is looking to be the supplier for more F1 teams but the process seems to be frustrating especially after negotiations with Toro Rosso failed.
Sauber had a change in management recently and pulled a plug on the deal they originally planned with Honda for 2018 engines. The team renewed their partnership with Ferrari for the next season and beyond. This effectively forced Honda to search for another team to pitch their engine.
Toro Rosso is signed up with Renault for another season, but still, the Red Bull’s junior team started a conversation with Honda. After weeks of negotiation, both the parties could not agree on the finance aspect of the deal.
McLaren is still to decide on their 2018 engines. With the number of reliability issues they faced on the track this year, they are not in a hurry to lock up with Honda without exploring other options.
McLaren is now in the 9th position in the constructor’s standings.
