Reports indicate that this Friday will see an official announcement from Sauber, the now Audi-owned team, confirming that Nico Hulkenberg has signed a three-year agreement beginning in 2025. Owned entirely by Volkswagen’s Audi division, the Swiss-based Formula 1 team appears ready to wait for Carlos Sainz to decide on a similar proposal that would keep him racing at least until 2027 as well.
Roger Benoit, a seasoned F1 correspondent, wrote in Blick, “There will be transfer news on Friday. Audi-Sauber will announce the arrival of Nico Hulkenberg for the next few years.”
The 36-year-old German driver, Hulkenberg, recently shared his thoughts on the ongoing ‘silly season’ dynamics among drivers while in China, stating, “For some it might move quite quickly, for some maybe not.”
In another development, the F1 Commission, which met both in Geneva and through a video conference on Thursday, discussed the possibility of extending points to the top twelve finishers starting from 2025. According to a joint statement from Formula 1 and the FIA, “It was agreed that further analysis of proposed changes was required with a view to a proposal to be presented to the F1 Commission meeting in July.”
