Toro Rosso’s James Key will continue to work with the team as its Technical Director.
The 45-year-old Englishman started his career in F1 with Jordan and got promoted to the seat of the Technical Director and remained so during all the re-brands (Midland/Spyker/Force India) and later switched to Sauber.
Key, one of the most sought after engineer joined Toro Rosso in 2012 and has been working on the development of the F1 car for the Faenza-based outfit.
Speaking about the team key said, “This is a team which I have great respect for and have thoroughly enjoyed working with for the past 5 years; now I look forward to continuing our project into the future,”
“STR is unique, facing the challenges of being spread over two countries and fulfilling the roles of both a team in its own right and an important part of the Red Bull driver programme.
“They are challenges that the team takes in its stride and, whilst doing so, continues to grow and improve year on year.”
Team Boss Franz Tost considers Key as the man for the job as he has the tech skills and management skills necessary to get everyone to work together for the common goal.
“Formula 1 is a team sport, but one in which an individual can still make a difference,” said Tost.
“So far, in his time with us, James has proved that he can indeed make that difference, leading the technical side of the operation.
“Not only has he been adept at producing chassis-aero packages that are well regarded throughout the paddock, He has also shown the management skills necessary to get the most out of all the various departments that work together in Faenza and in Bicester.”
Scuderia Toro Rosso stands sixth in the Constructors’ Championship and its drivers occupy 9th and 17th spots in the driver’s ratings.
