No matter the conditions, Lewis always delivers: Vettel

It feels good to get praises from people about your work. But how do you feel when your arch rival praises you? Sebastian Vettel knew Lewis would be special from the time when they raced against each other in karting and then again in Formula 3.

In 2017, Vettel and Hamilton are main contenders for the world title. Out of last ten, they have won 7  Formula 1 titles. This year a mere 14 points separate them with Vettel being number 1 and Hamilton as Number 2 in the title ranking.

Vettel, talking to Channel 4 recalled the first time he heard about Hamilton, “I remember him in 1999, he finished third in the European Championship in karting. And the team I was racing with was saying: this guy, he will go all the way.”

After that, the pair raced again in 2005 Formula 3 Championship “One-on-one [against him] was in Formula 3. I was in my first year, he was in the second year and blowing everyone away. I didn’t get much chance, I joined him on the podium a couple of times.”

“That was when you saw no matter what – yes, great year, second year so more experience, great car, whatever – but whatever the conditions, he was always there and delivering. In the end, when someone is always there, always delivering – you might get lucky for a day, or whatever, but not for a year.”

There are nine races remaining in the season and Vettel is on the top of the driver standings. He is convinced that he will maintain the lead when the last race is concluded in Abu Dhabi in late November.

“He’s extremely quick, extremely gifted at what he does. I don’t think it’s a huge challenge for him to drive quickly or to adapt with different conditions and so on. He’s always there. But he’s not unbeatable,”  says  Vettel who is gunning for his fifth Formula 1 World title.
