Reliability fixes in place for Austria –Renault

“What is clear [from Baku] is that we did have reliability issues on track. [These are] issues which we immediately addressed, but this should not detract from the clear progress which has been made,” said Renault engine chief Remi Taffin regarding reliability issues that have hounded its customer teams in past events.

Engine problems hindered Red Bull driver Max Verstappen from finishing in Baku, his third stoppage this year, with a race-ending episode at the Baku City Circuit practice.

Renault was scoreless in Baku, the only team to be so, with a fuel leak in practice suffered by Jolyon Palmer before an engine misfire in the early parts of the race. Nico Hulkenberg also had an electrical issue in Q2.

Taffin confirmed that fixes have been put in place for the next races.

“We have put in place new and better procedures to catch any issues before the cars take to the track and we’re working with great diligence in this area.”

Traffins team has spotted coincidence of issues and are working on it.

“For our customer teams, we saw coincidence of issues. The Energy Store issue we have seen has been addressed and the new Energy Stores are to a different specification without this concern.

The Renault engine chief  that the latest specifications will put to rest issues that have previously assailed customer teams.

“With the ICE, the latest specification addresses the problems we’ve seen to date. In Austria, we have the latest versions of components and we should not see any repeats of previous woes.”
