Singapore is Red Bull’s best chance says Ricciardo

After his podium finish at Monza, Daniel Ricciardo says Marina Bay presents the best chance for a race win for Red Bull.

Singapore’s Marina Bay circuit is Red Bull’s favourite for one simple reason, They do well here. Sebastian Vettel won four races on the track, three of which was with Red Bull.

To prepare the best way they can, Red Bull changed many engine components to incur the grid penalties at Monza. This way they could get a clean and penalty free start at the Singapore GP. At Monza, Ricciardo started at 16th and ended at a fourth. This was an impressive feat because Monza is not really the type of circuit that suits Red Bull’s RB13.

At 2016 Singapore Grand prix, Ricciardo was at 2nd at the start grid and finished second on the podium, only  0.5s slower than the race winner Nico Rosberg.

Ricciardo  said, “I believe Singapore won’t be our only chance but is one of our best chances of a win in the second half of the season,”

“I’ve started second and finished second at this track in the last two years, with the fastest lap both times, so my aim this year is definitely to start on pole and try to go one better in the race.”

Before he can get the pole position and win the race, Ricciardo will have to overcome two problems like all his rivals, The narrow circuit’s concrete barriers and the equatorial heat.

“You have to build up speed a little slower in the practice sessions on a street circuit like Singapore. At some point, you have to start taking risks but to do that straight away doesn’t make sense.

“I always prepare for the race with some acclimatization training. You feel the heat when you’re in the car, but when you stop after the race and the adrenaline decreases you feel it even more. After the race, I will easily sink five litres of water to rehydrate before I go to bed.”

For many Australians, Singapore GP is like the second home race. With Ricciardo’s consistent performance on the track and his recent form in Monza, the land down under might be ready for a much-deserved race win.
