Lawrence Stroll has big ideas to make Rising Point a formidable team in Formula 1 starting from the upcoming season.
The billionaire investor brought Force India’s assets during the 2018 summer break and got a new entry in the series. His son Lance Stroll joined the Silverstone based squad as the second driver for the 2019 season along with long timer Sergio Perez.
Force India has been a strong performer since last two years, having taken the fourth place in 2016 and 2017. Though the team often had a big gap from the top three, they were a strong fourth. And Stroll wants the team to close that gap before the 2021 regulations are implemented.
Writing in the official F1 site, he said: “Short-term, we want to stay fighting where we are,”
“Long term, when all the rules change, hopefully, we will be one of the greatest teams in the paddock.”
Force India’s team principal Vijay Mallya did not have hands-on approach to running the team. But Stroll is keen to have a different approach to team management.
“I will be very involved. The plan is, number one – ‘Nothing is broke here so you don’t need to fix it’. It already has great leadership and management in the team. They have been doing this for a long time and doing a great job. So, it’s about supporting them.
“Number two – it’s about putting financial stability in place”.
The team is provisionally booked as Rising Point for 2019 season. But they are expected to change the name before the season start. We can also expect to change the livery colour.
The stability provided by Stroll Sr may also help them attract new sponsors since the team’s performance has been fantastic. After all, they finished eighth despite starting from zero after the summer break.
