“Unfortunately, we’ve lost fifth position in the Constructors’ Championship to Williams. Now we have to fight back but I’m positive that, earlier or later, we will be back in that position,” said Franz Tost.
After a slip against Williams at Baku, the Toro Rosso boss is convinced the team will get back fifth position from its rivals in the Constructors’ Championship.
Toro Rosso was ahead of Williams in the midfield scrap, but Lance Strolls pole finish at the Azerbaijan GP gave the fifth spot to the Mercedes-powered squad.
Tost is sure that Faenza-based outfit will regain fifth slot in upcoming circuits despeit a four-point buffer enjoyed by Williams.
Tost intimated, “We knew from the beginning that both Canada and Azerbaijan are race tracks that are not in our favor but, nevertheless, we scored some points,”
The Toro Rosso boss now looks forward to a better showing in Austria.
“We now go to Austria, where we hope to be prepared as well as possible in order to finish with both cars in the points.”
Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz Jr.’s eighth place finish is linked to steering clear of teammate Daniil Kvyat.
Sainz said, “When I got to Turn 1 I saw Daniil rejoining the track and I had to quickly avoid crashing into him, which would’ve been a disaster for the team.”
A worthy sacrifice
“I spun, but it was a sacrifice I had to do. From then onwards, I kept calm, was very patient, and we recovered from last to eighth without making any mistakes.”
Following his STR12 shut down, Kvyat retired from the race.
